Coolangatta & Tweed Heads GC Junior Pennant Final Winners 2018/2019

GCDGA Junior Pennant Finals at Coolangatta/Tweed (Feb 3, 2019)

The 2019 GCDGA Junior Pennant final was fought out at Coolangatta/Tweed west course on Sunday. The winners were Coolangatta/Tweed with six and a half wins to Emerald Lakes’ one and a half wins. There were several outstanding performances with at least three matches going to the eighteenth hole to achieve a result.

The captains of Cool/Tweed and Emerald Lakes, Connor Whitelock and Kyle Gray respectively, played outstanding golf with each player recording several birdies in a top quality hard fought match. Connor Whitelock, the recent winner of the South Australian Junior Masters prevailed, with an eagle on the nineth as well as achieving back to back birdies against Kyle on the last two holes to win two up.

It was a fitting result for the Coolangatta/Tweed team as they farewelled their long time junior convenor Andrew Outridge who has spent several years nurturing junior golfers.

Result:  Coolangatta Tweed defeated Emerald Lakes 6.5 to 1.5

2018 Champion of Champions Results

Played at Parkwood Int. Sunday 11th November 2018

Congratulations to Parkwood International for hosting such a great day for our second attempt to gather all our clubs for the Champions this year to become “The Brian Oberman” golfer of the year plus our B and C Grade champs who seem to be forgotten step forward and be counted.

Thanks to Boomerang farm, Tally Valley, Tallebudgera, Surfers Paradise, Arundel Hills, Tamborine Mt, Canungra, Parkwood Int. and Southport Golf Clubs who made their players available for this events success.

It is most disappointing to have so many of our major clubs not represented today, I really hope clubs advised their players of the event in the first place, who would not want to be the Champion  of Champions of the G.C.D.G.A. as is Fuya Hasegawa of Arundel Hills is today.  Congratulations for an incredible score of 71 Gross in difficult conditions.  Runner-Up Karl Mariu, Parkwood and B Grade Mick Jolly Surfers Paradise 75 c/b and Runner-Up Tom Kerr, Tamborine Mt with 75.

C Grade winner Mathew Hilder Arundel Hills with 83 from Jack Wood Southport with 89.  Captain of the year was popular (For whatever the reason) Anthony Sams (Parkwood) but I must say there was some tension within the group regarding home courses advantage but the District match committee jumped on this straight away and calmed the situation down immediately – well done Anthony.

The club of the year was won by Tally Valley and Captain John Connors and his team were stoked with the win.

So the end to another great event and thank you to those clubs who did make it all possible.

It is with great sadness to report the passing of one of the Association’s most highly regarded executive committee members over many years Mr Percy Roberts.

Percy first joined the executive committee of the Association in 1977 and served for the following six years where his personal commitment to the Association was outstanding. He was very involved in the restructuring many of our golf programs to ensure golf on the Gold Coast continued to prosper.  He was especially involved in the setting up of new junior programs to ensure all young golfers were well prepared before joining any golf club in our District.  Percy was a great believer in clubs with strong junior programs ensured longer life for any club.

Percy, although standing down from the executive committee in 1983 continued to fulfill  his  roll of club delegate for his beloved Coolangatta and Tweed Heads Golf club and remained in that position for many years.

In 1983 Percy was awarded Life Membership of the Association for the undeniable commitment he has shown over many years as a member. He was still attending our delegates meetings until 2016 when his health began to decline.

Percy was one of our most popular attendees at our delegates meetings which showed exactly how he was accepted within our community.

We are very sorry to lose a great servant to the game of golf-his golf club and the Golf Coast District Golf Association .

REST    IN   PEACE   PERCY
