A great day at Surfers Paradise GC, saw the meeting of Brisbane District v Gold Coast District in match play. 5 Juniors, 6 seniors and 10 open players teed it up for bragging rights between the two and to see can hold the Marr-Skilton Cup.

The Gold Coast team, with some local knowledge proved to be way too strong, winning 15-6. The junior team had a clean sweep winning 5 matches to 0.

Inter District Challenge - Skilton/Marr Trophy ( GCDGA V BDGA November 7, 2021)

5 Juniors, 10 Open and 5 Seniors played off under match play conditions at Nudgee GC for the Skilton/Marr Shield against the best that Brisbane District could muster.

The result turned out to be a thriller with it coming down to the last two open matches. GCDGA’s No 2 Travis Robbie and No 1, Lewis Hoath both won in tight tussles to make it a draw overall. Gold Coast retains the cup.

Our one team victory was in the Opens but we surrendered our shields in the Juniors and Seniors. More detail is shown on the attached sheet as well as several photos from the day. Thank you to all players and their managers.

Inter Association Event - Cairns October 18 & 19 2022

Inter Association Event - Toowoomba October 24 & 25, 2021

Our team consisted of four quality up and coming local golfers who have in the past represented our district with honour.

The team included: Mitchell Varley (Team Captain) from Sanctuary Cove, Travis Robbie from Southport, Kyle Gray Royal Pines/Sanctuary Cove and Taylor Barr from Surfers Paradise Golf Club.

GCDGA President Ray Piper was also in attendance with myself as Team Manager.

The four ball and foursomes rounds were played at Middle Ridge GC. In the four ball, our best pairing produced a 63, 3 strokes behind Wide Bay’s 60. In the afternoon foursomes, the pairing of Mitchell Varley and Taylor Barr scored -1 winning on a countback from Wide Bay.

In the stroke played next morning at Toowoomba City, our players all found the much longer fairways difficult with fliers being an often complained about result. Nevertheless, Mitchell Varley recorded +1 over par with the best at -1. Travis Robbie recorded a commendable +3, Kyle Gray +5 and Taylor Barr +6.

In the overall teams Gross result, Wide Bay were victorious narrowly defeating the Gold Coast Team by one stroke.

Golf Australia staff Aaron Goggin and Chris Evans ensured the event ran smoothly.

Next year’s event will be hosted by Far North Queensland.

GCDGA & WGGC 4BBB SCRATCH STABLEFORD CLASSIC - SOUTHPORT GC 22 JANUARY 2023

114 golfers ventured onto Southport Golf Course to see who had the best four ball grouping. The scratch event turned into a tight tussle between the current mixed foursomes champs in Tom Dobosch and Riko Danjo and Links Hope Island’s Alex Whiteley and his mum, Amanda, with the Whiteley’s winning on a countback.

The 4BBB Stableford attracted plenty of interest but the field was blown away by Helensvale’s Shane Magennis and Lisa Sawford with an eye-watering 51 points followed by Andrew Louey and Alison Myatt on 45 on a countback from Tamborine Mt’s John Staffsmith and Alex Bryse.

The players all enjoyed the quality of the course and settled into a lovely lunch and drinks to conclude a great day.
