Thank you to all players for competing in the Gold Coast District Golf Association Gold Coast Senior Men’s Amateur Championships.  During covid-19 it was very tenuous for a few months if we could be able to open registrations but once opened the response from you all was amazing and again our annual 3 day Championship was underway.  Catering wasn’t available to be in the event this year, as back when we released entry it wasn’t something we could confirm at any point, so the covid-19 version was created and we hope understood buy the reduced rate reflected in the entry fee for this year.

Thank you to Links Hope Island Management and Course Crew & Pro Shop who were professional, courteous and amazing as usual and the club was prepared for you everyday.  The club cafe was available to all players for Breakfast, Lunch and coffee – thank you.

Congratulations to all who competed and the winners it was a very competitive field.  We have several trophies and prizes to be mailed to those who couldn’t be at the presentation – we will contact you when your prize is on the way.

The G.C.D.G.A. team enjoyed saying hi to returning faces and meeting new ones.  We hope you enjoyed your golfing championships and we look forward to seeing you in 2021.

The Team:  Neil Steinhardt (President), Ray Piper (Vice President), Ian Mitchell , Steve Stanton competing with you on the course, Barry Neill Secretary and Paul Orchard cheering on from other commitments.  Thank you to all the guys for what they do on the days or leading up to the event.

Covid-19

Covid 19

To all our Affiliated Clubs and Members,

I am writing to you because of the unprecedented situation we now find ourselves in where the COVID-19 virus has become a major threat to Global Health around the World and to our safety with-in Queensland. The GOLD COAST DISTRICT GOLF ASSOCIATION is taking direction & advice from GOLF AUSTRALIA  and it has been decided to cancel all golfing activities for the entire 2020 year at this stage.

With the uncertainty of any golf club being able to remain open and play golf in any format for the time being the Associations Executive Committee has decided to shut down all pre-booked golf competitions until further notice. It would be impossible for the association to complete any of the pennant competitions under these circumstances so this decision was not difficult to make. Border closures and now new directives from Golf Australia overnight and today it is unfortunately the most appropriate action that we can take.  I have liaised with several clubs this morning and everyone agrees due to the overall implications.

Once we are over the virus hurdle and life gets back to some sort of normality and all restrictions are lifted we as an association realize the importance of clubs to have full access to their time sheets so we will not interfere.  This is your rebuilding time so we will step back.

I will now begin on our 2021 program and book golf courses as required for our many events. You can expect to hear from me soon.

All meetings scheduled for 2020 are also cancelled until further notice.

The A.G.M under these unusual circumstances cannot be held as scheduled on 12th May 2020, we are liaising with the Industrial Licensing Unit in Brisbane to obtain written approval as required to postpone or modify Annual General Meetings to suit our legal requirements.  They can take up to 4 weeks for an actionable response.   It may be a postal AGM or a deferred meeting date?   We will keep you updated.  We have had the Districts financial audit completed early and we will have the annual report and all necessary information prepared by our usual date. I will be available 23hrs a day on 0412 630 180 if you have any questions or queries regarding any issue.

I will be contacting all clubs in preparation for our 2021 season to firstly confirm your availability and what events you would like to enter. We will then talk about dates.

We will continue with the complete operation of our Association through this very difficult period we find ourselves in because the association WILL be there in 2021, rebuilding with you.

I would like to wish all our clubs the very best of luck for the immediate future and look forward to a very speedy recovery for all once we get through this mess.

Neil Steinhardt President & Barry Neill Secretary

with Committee:  Ray Piper, Paul Orchard, Ian Mitchell & Steve Stanton

Div 1 & Div 2 Pennant Matches

UPDATE: Please note this Pennant Series is scheduled to recommence with Round 2 on Sunday 1st November 2020 draws have been uploaded under the EVENTS tab on our home page.

Results: 2020-Pennant-Series-Division-1-Round-1-Results-22nd-March-2020

Golf is a wonderful sport to continue to play as you have the great outdoors, sunshine and space to enjoy your sport.  The Gold Coast District Golf Association is working closely with this weekend’s Pennant host clubs Surfers Paradise & Arundel Hills to enable your competition to begin as scheduled this weekend.  Please be assured we will be working with all participating clubs on each round to keep up to date with the Australian Government guidelines that are implemented for that week as we know guidelines are changing daily.  Our aim to keep playing golf, keep supporting our clubs and players is paramount.

Today we can confirm the matches for  Round 1 scheduled on Sunday 22nd March, 2020 will go ahead.  To eliminate over the 100 rule and lots of players inside together with other club patrons which may be in attendance we advise no free catering will be provided to players.  We suggest play your round and then you are free to leave, or working with the under 100 rule – snack bar food if available to purchase in the club house for those wanting refreshments.

Please submit your results through the usual channels of email or photo SMS to the District as usual. We wish you all a fantastic series this year.
